DIRECTOR’S NOTE

(Davide Sibaldi)

I wanted to make a movie about abandonment and about the fear of completely living out our own emotions, feelings and happiness. The Summer In Winter is also a movie about understanding and confronting our mistakes and about  the courage to grow up. I wanted to make a movie which could be of some help to the audience; a movie which might show them how to understand certain deep, personal matters belonging to our inner selves with no fear.

I wanted the audience to feel richer when they left the cinema. This is the path I followed while writing, ”The Summer in Winter”.

Two characters and one location. Real time.

Real time was a must for me in order to make the movie as  realistic and three-dimensional as possible. Such a story, with a  brief encounter of less than one hour in a motel room, could only be treated with an overall, immediate presentation of events: straight and sharp, with no temporal lapses. In this manner, the story has a strong and deep impact on the audience, just as it does on the two characters.

In order to achieve  this, I needed actors with a strong theatrical background. Pia Lanciotti and Fausto Cabra, are both graduates of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano Acting School and each  has years of proven experience  in national and international theatres.
